5 step installation

Assuming you have a supported version of Adobe Flash Professional and Adobe Extension Manager installed:

  1. Download swell for either Mac or Windows.
    • Install the latest .NET Framework If you are on Windows XP, Vista, or 7.
  2. Install the *extension.

  3. Open swell in Flash, click connect and copy the path. To find swell in Flash:

    • CS4 and lower: Window > Other Panels > swell
    • CS5 and higher: Window > Extensions > swell

  4. Click setup and paste in the file path.

  5. Done.

Manual installation

If you cannot for some reason install swell on Mac or Windows using Adobe Extension Manager, you're gonna have to install swell manually.

  1. Download swell for either Mac or Windows.

    • Download the .zip file. (You should get manual.zip)

  2. In the manual folder, open install.fla in Flash and follow the instructions.

  3. Copy the path. (You would need this later)

  4. Open a file manager, paste in the path, and navigate to the folder.

  5. Move the files in the manual folder to that path.

  6. Run Swell, click setup and paste in the file path.

  7. Done.

Multiple Flash programs

Swell prefers to work with only one Flash program at a time, But If you happen to have multiple Flash programs, you can click 'add' and paste the path in swell.

Installing extensions

*Note: Install the appropriate extension for whichever version of Flash you have installed.

Flash MX 2004 to Flash CS5 = swell.mxp

Flash CS5.5 and beyond = swell.zxp

Note: If you are using Flash CC 2015 and above use this tool to install Extensions: Adobe Manage Extensions App

Upgrading Swell

Upgrading swell is fairly easy, swell has an auto updater both on Windows and Mac. To update, click "Check for Updates" and install the update.

Remember, swell's extension needs to be updated too, you can update the extension by installing the new .mxp or .zxp file with the standard Adobe Extension Manager or the Manage Extensions App if you are on Flash CC 2015 and beyond.
